I, too, ultimately feel that this is the right thing for my family. It helps to think that there is really no perfect way (I had doubts and fears when my kids were in public and private schools too). But at the end of the day, we feel this is a more joyful way.

Thanks for your comment on my blog! It's fun to meet other homeschool families! :)Sonjahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08693007110690293244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9064322776053070628.post-75388828573284521972008-04-16T14:42:00.000-07:002008-04-16T14:42:00.000-07:00Hey Beck-Impressive essay. When the time comes I'm sure I will look to your example as I have with all things mothering.

I know that homeschooling is great to foster a love of learning and to tailor curriculum to each child's individual needs. My only question is: How do you know they are learning everything they need to know? I mean, when you're homeschooling, do you have your kids take any standardized tests? If I decide to homeschool, how will my kids stack up when they get to college?Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14195638699621406067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9064322776053070628.post-74502113009625784442008-04-12T04:22:00.000-07:002008-04-12T04:22:00.000-07:00You are not "merely" a mom homeschooling her child...You are not "merely" a mom homeschooling her children, but a woman influencing generations to come! Here's a neat quote I came across last year:
“In an important sense the home is a miniscule world. If it has ten books it is partly a library: If three pictures, a little museum: If six tools, a repair shop: . . . Whenever a piano or fiddle is in serious use, it is a part-time conservatory. At the mealtime grace, or in answering a child’s questions about God, it is a fraction of a church. In sickness, it is a hospital: . . . A screen and projector make it a collapsible movie house.
One child makes a home a course in liberal education for both himself and parents: Two children make it a private school: Three or more make it a campus.” -Norman CorwinMaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12151910762502998483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9064322776053070628.post-68288405827868703662008-04-09T12:47:00.000-07:002008-04-09T12:47:00.000-07:00An eigth-grader coloring the letter E? I'm glad I have you to forge the way ahead of me in terms of educating my kids/homeschooling if need be. I'm also glad I still have another year where I don't quite have to think about it yet. I'm planning to enjoy it while it lasts 'cause it will never be this way again.Emilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04900489172926812463noreply@blogger.com
